While we had just finished our 2017 Deer Season the weekend before, we were back at it looking for hogs as Nik O. had been waiting to hog hunt since August 14th. While we weren't seeing a lot of hogs compared to years past we were seeing hogs pretty much everyday during our buck hunts, I was optimistic that we'd be able to put Nik on a pig in short order.
Nik and I had been communicating off and on as his wild pig hunt approached and I knew he was prepared. He was really looking forward to taking his hog with his Magnum Research .500 JRH Revolver and if we couldn't close the distance to his comfortable range, his back up would be a Marlin in 45-70 Government, neither had I any experience with while wild pig hunting.
Shelley, Nik & I were greeted with tough hunting conditions during his hunt, while the weather was great, it was far from ideal for wild pig hunting. The pigs were present but nocturnal and with temperatures hitting 91 & 89 degrees on the two days Nik had scheduled to hunt. We hadn't expected this weather when Nik booked his hunt back in August but that's part of hunting, with the hogs in a hot weather pattern we guessed wrong on being in the right place at the right time. On Sunday afternoon at about 12:30 with Nik's endorsement we threw in the towel on this pig hunt. The wild pork had owned us on this particular hunt.
We have been doing this long enough to know that we can never guarantee 100% success on a hunt but it is extremely important to us that we give our client the best possible hunt. In Nik's case I think we provided him with a great hunting experience but we did not get him in position for a realistic opportunity on a wild hog. Shelley and I offered to bring Nik back on another date to complete his hunt for a wild pig. We hope to post a blog in the near future with Nik and his hard earned hog. Until then here are a few pictures of Nik's hunt, this last weekend.
