Waiting on September - California Elk Hunting

Waiting on September - California Elk Hunting

August 10, 2015 by

For many California hunters the 2015 hunting season has already kicked off, in fact this last weekend rifle blacktail season has already begun, hard to believe.  As I write this I’m eagerly waiting for a text on how our buddy has done on his family ranch in Cloverdale, California.  We are always excited to see pictures of the bomber blacktails they have on their place.

We are enthusiastically waiting on September and the arrival of archery elk hunting in the Northeastern elk zone, specifically the Rocky Mountain elk that have established themselves in the oaks and plains of Shasta County.  We have been hard at work at becoming familiar with this new ranch and the habits of the elk.

Setting Proof2

It’s a big and beautiful ranch that has abundant wildlife, excellent habitat and a ruggedness that fits nicely into the equation of elk hunting, all within minutes of Redding, California.  Our preseason scouting has been productive for elk.  We have been able to find several small herds of elk, mainly cows, calves and small bulls.  We have done pretty well on keeping tabs on their daily routines.

 Looking to the east

However, it’s the big bulls that we are waiting to arrive.  It is evident by the excellent calf crop that these big boys are inevitably going to come calling.  The ranch is uniquely positioned to be in the prime rutting grounds.  We know that they can literally show up overnight, which pushes our anticipation levels through the roof with each passing day.

While they are not on our time schedule, we know they will begin to arrive but we are internally screaming "HURRY UP ALREADY".

They like us must be waiting on September!!!

We have 1 rifle spot left available for the 2015 elk hunt, if you are one of the lucky 10 hunters whom as drawn a 2015 rifle 305 Northeastern Bull tag, give us a call.  You can take advantage of all our scouting and days afield with our archery hunter.  We will have a great information on what types of bulls and numbers you could be hunting by the time your hunt dates arrive.  We have high expectations for our 2015 elk hunters.
