The SC2 Outdoors clients and family was able to take advantage of a hot tip of a big school of fish moving up river, we had a couple of days ahead of the fleet. It turned out to be a great lead and a solid tip. The SC2 Outdoors Team had 3 stellar days on the Sacramento River out of Cottonwood over this past weekend. When the smoke cleared we ended the 3 day run with 19 hook ups and 16 nice chrome Sacramento River Chinooks in the box.
First boat down, as the sun rose it only brought 4 additional boats to the fabled "Barge Hole". The bite hit hard at 8:15 a.m. We were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and put a limit of 6 fish in the box by 9:25 a.m.
We expected a few more boats because of the weekend crowd, it wasn't as bad as we anticipated. The word hadn't really gotten out yet and the Feather is still red hot, so it was nice that we only had 10 boats in the grind. For the SC2 Outdoors Team, it was a repeat of the day before. Great bait, getting lucky and good sticks in our clients hands we ended with 1 under a boat limit with 7 bright solid chinooks in the box, in the shade by 10:30 a.m.
This was our last opportunity to fish before we complete a Northern California Elk Hunt and a Likely Tables Antelope hunt, so it was reserved for family. The word had gotten out that the "Brown Boat of SC2 Outdoors" was mining chrome off the Sacramento River bottom. That led to us being greeted with 17 boats in the hole this day. The extra boat traffic, change in barometric pressure and the moderate cloud cover made for a tougher bite. We stuck with our routine and managed to have 5 hook ups and 3 chinooks in the box.
If your looking to hit the Sacramento River this fall, there is no funner fish to catch on this river than a Chinook Salmon, the Sacramento King. The fish are running a little smaller this year but bigger fish should start filling in as we move into September and October. We have limited availability but we specialize in small groups of 1-4. We don't mix groups so the boat is yours for the day. If you'd like an opportunity to fish the river in September or October, we'd be honored to have you fish with us. We'll be back at it beginning the 11th of September. If we are booked for your preferred dates we can point you in the direction of some of the best guides on the river, you'll be in great hands either way.
Give us a call or drop us an email, enjoy this fishery while it lasts.
