California Pronghorn Hunts

The Pronghorn (Antilocapra americana) commonly referred to as antelope is doing well in northeastern California. A Golden Secret, California offers some of the finest pronghorn hunting in all of the western states. An 80 incher can come from any of Pronghorn “Antelope” Hunting Zones in California.

2016 - We had 2 hunters booked and they both took great bucks from public land. Our first hunter took an 87 inch pronghorn and our second hunter took an 80 incher, which was an impressive 19 1/2 inches wide. We had a good year for California Pronghorns.

We have consistently put our clients on pronghorns over 80”. We have assisted our clients in harvesting 80" or better pronghorns in 3 of the 6 California Pronghorn Antelope hunting zones. Our largest to date a massive 87.00” monster taken by a California Draw Tag holder in 2016. We have also taken an 87.725 behemoth in Nevada, when our daughter drew a good unit. All of these bucks where taken on public land. While the last thing we like to do at SC2 is throw around scores, it is a trophy factor, and unfortunately in today’s media crazed world it seems to be all that matters. However, what it means to us is that we are fortunate to be locating an older mature age class of pronghorn bucks for our clients. On any particular year when genetics and great weather conditions come together California can produce giant Pronghorns. In the end we hope that the quality of the hunt is not predestined to be based on B&C score of the animal you harvest.

Our Pronghorn Antelope hunts are conducted on public and private land during the general seasons. What sets us apart from other outfitters is our dedication to scouting. It is our scouting, our optics, our equipment and our confidence in finding bucks that others won’t look for. Is it easy? No. Is it rewarding? Absolutely. We often find our greatest goats on public lands, we are not down playing “private land”, but it is far from a prerequisite to harvesting trophy pronghorn bucks.

SC2 Outdoors California Pronghorn Hunting

We typically run our California Pronghorn Hunts for 3 days, we can accommodate longer hunts if requested and our schedule permits. Weather conditions are usually stable during these hunts and it can be hot, dusty and dry, it is the high desert so the temperature can range 40 degrees between daytime highs and nighttime lows.

Depending on the Zone you’ve drawn and where the bucks we are targeting are located, we will normally either set up a field base camp or make arrangements for hotel lodging.

We access the hunt areas by four wheeled drive vehicles and UTV’s, there will be considerable hiking, sitting and glassing each day. Expect shots to range from 100 – 450 yards, depending on conditions and your abilities and comfort zone. We’d be honored to scour the high desert sage in late summer with you. SC2 Outdoors offers pronghorn hunting opportunities on both private and public lands, all tags are issued through the annual California Big Game Draw. The application deadline is early June. 2021 California Pronghorn Hunts

Private Land Trophy Pronghorn Hunt - Zone 4 - This ranch has historically produced great pronghorns over the years and we expect it to produce 80+ inch goats for our clients.

Private Land Pronghorn Hunt - Zone 4 - This ranch has a great number of pronghorn on it and we expect it to produce mature goats in the 76 - 80 inch range for our clients.

Public Land Pronghorn Trophy Hunt - Zone 1,2,3,4,5 & 6 - These are public land hunts across the Zone which require an immense amount of scouting and ground work. Our target animals will be mature 80+ inch goats. These are only conducting on the first rifle hunt for the zone.

Public Land Pronghorn Hunt - Zone 1,2,3,4,5 & 6 - These are public land hunts across the Zone which require diligent scouting and ground work. Our target animals will be mature 74+ inch goats. These are conducted on any of the hunts for the zone.
