Located in the Northeastern portion of Shasta County, California outside of the town Fall River Mills, you will find both the River Ranch and River Butte Ranch nestled along the banks of the Fall River. These ranches are home to an organic beef operation as well as important producer of grass and alfalfa hay and wild rice in the Fall River Valley.
The River Ranch at 1857.91 acres combined with it's sister ranch The River Butte Ranch at 674.19 acres encompasses about 3.48 miles of the slow flowing Fall River. Collectively these two ranches represent 2505.10 acres of incredible real estate and abundant natural resources. These ranches operate their agricultural businesses in such a way to protect and benefit the wildlife that utilize these properties throughout the year.
We are very pleased to work with both the River Ranch and the River Butte Ranch to assist in building and preserving a sound wildlife management strategy. As well as producing outdoor adventures for fishing, hunting and photography that will coexist with their ranching and farming programs.

These ranches are home to a large deer population, that we have found to be Blacktail Mule Deer Hybrids or commonly referred to as "Benchleg Bucks". They have evolved to take advantage of their farming practices. The ranch has abundant natural grass hay fields as well as alfalfa fields these deer have grown accustomed to utilizing. Due to the well managed agricultural practices, the ranch has left generous areas of natural habitat that allows the deer to thrive. The November rut brings in additional deer onto the ranches, where they will spend most of the winter.
These ranches are located in the current California Department of Fish and Wildlife established Deer Zone known as X-1. We will be offering buck hunting opportunities on these ranches, all of which will be highly controlled and limited to insure we harvest only the best bucks annually while allowing our younger bucks to grow.
A-3 Archery Specific Hunt (X-1 Zone) - This will be our only archery hunting opportunity. These hunts will be conducted by ground blinds, tree stands and limited spot and stalk opportunities. The hunt is limited to a maximum of 4 hunters annually.
X-1 General Rifle Hunt - This will be our only rifle hunting opportunity for these unique Blacktail Mule Deer Hybrids. These hunts will be conducted as well from both ground blinds and spot and stalk methods. We will be selectively looking to harvest our best and oldest bucks from the herd on the ranch. The hunt is limited to a maximum of 3 hunters annually.
The Fall River is a fabled trout destination for fly fisherman the world over. While primarily and entirely private property surrounding this slow flowing spring fed river, the access to certain stretches of the Fall River are extremely hard to acquire. The River Ranch and River Butte Ranch have approximately 3.49 miles of Fall River frontage and the opportunity for incredible trout fishing.
The River Ranch and the River Butte Ranch will be conservatively managed for a rewarding outdoor adventure, whether it be with a gun, bow, fly rod or a camera. Our management philosophy is simple, provide the habitat for maximum carrying capacity and do selective harvest for trophy potential. We limit our hunts so that our clients have a great hunting experience.
